Accessibility Statement

This statement applies to the selbst-stark learning platform (selbst-stark.ch). For us, accessibility isn’t an add-on — it’s the core of the project: selbst-stark is aimed at people with cerebral palsy and their families, so we build the platform to be as accessible as possible from the ground up.

Status and conformance

Date of this statement: August 2026. It is based on a self-assessment – so far we have checked the platform ourselves, at the code level and through repeated practical feedback, not through an external, independent testing body or with real screen-reader users. In our assessment, selbst-stark is largely conformant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA. This statement is provided voluntarily; it does not constitute legal advice.

What’s already in place

• Colour contrasts are mathematically checked against AA (well above it for important elements).
• The site works fully without JavaScript – including category and target-group filters, the contact form and newsletter sign-up. JavaScript further improves usability (e.g. smooth scrolling), but is never a requirement.
• A clear, consistent heading hierarchy rather than purely visual font sizes.
• Full keyboard operability, including a skip link to the main content; the sticky header at the top remains visible while keyboard focus is within it.
• The intro video has captions and an expandable text transcript; the same applies to any video Power-ups we embed ourselves.
• Almost all content is also available in plain language – toggled via the button at the top of the menu.
• Moving elements (e.g. the brief highlight after making a selection) respect the system’s “reduce motion” setting.
• The Atkinson Hyperlegible typeface, designed specifically for people with low vision, is self-hosted (no external font request — also for data-protection reasons).

Known limitations

For us, honesty is part of an accessibility statement. Currently known limitations:

• External Power-up content: some of our Power-ups run via the external learning platform Reach360 (Articulate). Its accessibility is outside our control and we cannot guarantee it. Where a video version of the same Power-up exists, we also offer it directly on our own site, with captions and a transcript.
• Translations: selbst-stark is technically set up for German, Italian, French and English. Currently, content is fully translated only into German; the other languages will follow.
• Category images on the homepage have no alt text, since the category name already appears as visible, clickable text next to them – the images are purely decorative.
• There has not yet been an external test with real screen readers or by an independent specialist body – only our own review at the code level and repeated feedback.
